In order to contribute to the continuity, coherence and high quality in the school transition between preschool education and the first grades of elementary school, we developed the initiative "TRANSITANDO LA ESCUELA", aimed at public school teachers to contribute to the quality of education through effective learning practices that enable children to have social, cognitive and emotional skills that allow them to advance affectively between the transition grade and third grade of elementary school.

Transitando la Escuela is an initiative that arises to benefit more than 600 children in the schools of Barranquilla and Cartagena of the Pies Descalzos Foundation, and ensure that children who are in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, can have a harmonious transition process to primary school.

How do we do it?

We have work axes that build up this project

  • Shared Vision: To promote through a shared vision and sense of purpose, continuity and coherence of educational experiences between levels and grades.
  • Learning Environments: To provide spaces that facilitate the continuity of quality processes (teaching-learning) between early education and the first years of school.
  • Appropriate and Effective Pedagogical Practices: Promote children's development and learning through the implementation of evidence-based pedagogical practices of excellence.
  • Curricular Alignment: To ensure curricular coherence between levels and grades for the adaptation and development of boys and girls.
  • Family Involvement: Encourage the establishment of partnerships between home and school.

We are convinced that this moment of transition in the students' lives must be built within the previous knowledge, experience and collaborative ties between families and education service providers. It is there, where from our work as Pies Descalzos Foundation, we want to ensure an adequate and quality transition that allows children to have meaningful and positive learning experiences in their school life.
