To mitigate the impact of the pandemic on learning, we created a platform to resolve academic questions and doubts that arise with home learning.

Students, families, caregivers and teachers can now have a new alternative to solve academic questions and doubts, with the platform created by the Pies Descalzos Foundation called: "PIES EN CASA" (Feet at Home).

This initiative, developed due to the contingency that changed the dynamics of learning throughout the country, seeks to connect Colombian households with volunteers trained in different areas to provide support and pedagogical tools that allow the continuity of educational processes.

For the Executive Director of the Foundation, Patricia Sierra, despite the fact that educational institutions make enormous efforts to continue their work remotely, the learning process has undoubtedly been affected:

"There are students less receptive to information without direct contact with teachers; teachers have many students and limited schedules; parents, especially those who work, do not always have the time or ability to support their children's school exercise. Therefore, this platform wants to support teachers, parents, caregivers and students in a timely manner so that the right to learn does not stop and most importantly that we understand that we are all part of the solution."

PIES EN CASA is an effort that was made with the purpose of going beyond the classroom, and to show that teamwork and guidance are fundamental in the construction of knowledge.

Likewise, this initiative expects not only to benefit the more than 2,800 students of the educational institutions of Cartagena, Barranquilla and Quibdó supported by the Foundation, but also to reach all those who need to resolve their academic doubts and concerns throughout the country.

How does the platform work?

The PIES EN CASA platform has two spaces for interaction: the first, where you can post a question, and the second, where volunteers from Colombia and several countries around the world will be supporting the teaching and learning process in a short response time.

Through Feet at homeAnyone who has an academic question can post their question by choosing the grade and subject.

In addition, the platform will gradually build up a bank of questions that can be consulted by visitors to the site in the future.

On the other hand, the Barefoot Foundation is clear that internet access is limited in some areas of the country, so it has proposed the construction of an alternative that will allow contact via telephone or WhatsApp to reach many more Colombians.

"It is important to remember that, today more than ever, we remain connected for education," concluded Patricia Sierra.
