Every year, Obra Social La Caixa dedicates a week to Desafío Emprende, where 35 teams of young people from different countries attend a week of training in the city of Barcelona.
In May, for the second consecutive year, two teams from Pies Descalzos Schools were invited to participate in such a gratifying encounter.
For the Barefoot Foundation it was a source of pride to have participated in the Emprende Challenge, since there were 1,400 participating projects and only 35 winners.
Representing Pies Descalzos were 7 students, 4 from the Cartagena school and 3 from the Barranquilla school, accompanied by the Rector and Regional Coordinator of Cartagena. The children created innovative projects, aware of the environment, both human and natural, and also environmentally friendly.
Cartagena's team focused on saving water, but wanted to go beyond sensors that automatically turn off faucets. That is why their project was based on an application that aims to change people's behavior, making them more aware of the time when turning on a water faucet. This App works with a sensor in the water faucet that is connected to the cell phone, and that alerts users, through an alarm, every time they use up the water resource.
The Barranquilla students' project consists of creating intelligent handles that aim to save the lives of people trapped in natural disasters. These handles, called "eyes of the rescuers" work by emitting a strong signal that will warn and guide rescuers in times of danger, among debris or in times of search. In addition, the device will monitor heart rate and essential information about the wearer, such as chronic diseases and allergies.
We invite you to watch the students present their projects:
Both students and the Barefoot Foundation team want to thank Obra Social La Caixa for a week of wonderful experiences, where there was learning in many aspects of our lives, beyond entrepreneurship. For the children this experience generated a change in their lives and their vision of the future, wanting to become Caixa Líderes in their schools.
