Mercy Corps, Misión Internacional de Justicia and Fundación Pies Descalzos express our deep solidarity with the communities of Catatumbo, in Norte de Santander, who are facing the serious consequences of the violence in this area of the country that has caused the displacement of 32,000 people to date, according to the Ombudsman's Office.

We are pained by the suffering of the population settled in these municipalities, especially the most vulnerable people: children, adolescents, women, the main direct victims of this tragedy. We call on the actors involved to prioritize dialogue, respect for International Humanitarian Law, the protection of life and the fundamental rights of the affected communities and we express our profound rejection of the grave situation of violence that the Catatumbo region is experiencing.

We join the efforts that the government, national and international organizations, the private sector, the media and individuals are making to address this humanitarian crisis. We reiterate our commitment to building a lasting and sustainable peace, based on understanding, justice and respect for human dignity. We will continue to work tirelessly for reconciliation, rural development and the strengthening of the social fabric in Catatumbo and throughout Colombia.
