The Pies Descalzos Foundation and the PepsiCo Foundation consolidated an alliance with the purpose of promoting healthy lifestyle habits and improving the nutritional status of students from 5 to 12 years old who attend the schools that FPD accompanies in Barranquilla and Cartagena.
The project delivered more than 135,000 rations and food packages to those students who required them, along with the development of other nutritional education strategies for the community, and to promote good eating habits among the country's children and adolescents.
"For PepsiCo, as a leader in the global food and beverage industry, and specifically for our foundation, being part of this type of initiative is one of our priorities. Contributing to the development of children and the well-being of the communities where we operate will always be our main objective. Alimentos por el futuro allows us to continue having a positive impact on the student community, and on this occasion, hand in hand with the Pies Descalzos Foundation,
For her part, Patricia Sierra, Executive Director of the Pies Descalzos Foundation, said that this is a project that has a progression that involves monitoring and improving the nutritional status of children. "With this alliance we want to continue contributing to education in the country. This time, promoting healthy habits that allow a better school performance and, of course, an adequate growth in children".
"Alimentos por el Futuro" had the support of the Metropolitan University of Barranquilla to know the nutritional status of each student, collecting valuable information for families and teachers, and allowing to adequately address the nutritional needs of children in order to improve their health.
At the same time, food rations have been delivered to those who have already passed these processes, which include dairy products, baked goods and seasonal fruits.
As part of the nutrition education strategy, the project also achieved the construction of two school vegetable gardens, as well as the development of physical activity sessions that educate, entertain and promote a healthy lifestyle in the community.
"In the midst of virtuality, we have linked the community in physical activity sessions and we have also delivered healthy snack recipes at low cost. All this is the result of a great alliance in which we continue to work and in which we hope to have better results now with the return to face-to-face attendance in schools."
This partnership is part of the Food for Good campaign, which seeks to promote food security by supporting different initiatives in the communities where the company operates.
