For one week, ten students from the International School of Zurich, Switzerland visited Colombia for the first time to meet students from the Pies Descalzos schools in Cartagena and Barranquilla.
The visit is part of the initiative to create a cultural immersion for both Swiss and Colombian students to have a different experience during their mid-year vacation. Throughout the week they had activities where they strengthened their skills in their second language, met new people and forged new friendships.
In the case of the students from Switzerland, the activity was also aimed at learning about the Foundation's mission, since they have been part of the network of allies and donors for more than ten years.
Under its fundraising club, the Barefoot Foundation Club, students have made donations that have contributed to the purchase of furniture for the schools that the Foundation has donated. On this occasion, they supported the primary classrooms of the "Nuevo Bosque - Pies Descalzos" school in Barranquilla and the "Pies Descalzos -Villas de Aranjuez" school in Cartagena.
In addition, and thanks to their management, both Pedro and Max were awarded in their school for their management during their time leading the fundraising club.
For their part, the students of the Pies Descalzos schools, in addition to receiving their guests, had the opportunity to meet people from other countries and understand their culture and traditions while sharing a good game of soccer. The experience was enriching for all the students from both Switzerland and Colombia, who in a short time became friends and promised to see each other again.
Definitely, an experience that we want to repeat so that more children and young people in the world see the power of education to transform the reality in Colombia.
