In recent days took place in the library of Pies Descalzos School - Barranquilla, the most anticipated event for all children in third, fourth and fifth grade. After months of preparation, hours of practice, and the constant support of English teachers, finally, with great fanfare, the Spelling Bee 2018 took place.

This initiative was born years ago as part of a program of institutional strategies aimed at identifying and developing children's interest in English as a second language, and to enhance their skills in this field.

The Spelling Bee is a hard-fought spelling bee that takes place among students. Word after word, round by round, participants have the opportunity to show off their language skills.

Methodology

If the student does not get it right, he/she is disqualified; if he/she spells the word correctly, he/she advances to the next round and with it to a more complex level of difficulty.

The contest is divided by grade, i.e., each grade has its own winners; only students of the same grade compete against each other.

Five winners are chosen for each grade, the five participants with the highest number of correct pronunciations. Pronunciation is not only enough to know the letters that make up the word; it is also a fundamental part for the contestants.

We would also like to acknowledge the effort and dedication of the teaching and administrative staff in the preparation of this activity. It is so important for the children and for the second language learning line within the Barefoot Intervention Model.
