At the Barefoot Foundation we are convinced that quality public education must be accompanied by different strategies and care. For this reason, within our intervention model we take into account the spaces that take care of the health of children and young people.

We believe that one of the factors that affect the low performance of students are visual problems that are not detected in time; these cause low motivation, reading difficulties and eye strain due to the effort the student must make. That is why in alliance with Charity Vision and the Metropolitan University, a visual health assessment was carried out. We had the support of specialists and students from the optometry program at the Pies Descalzos and San Vicente schools.

During this day, 448 students from Fundación Pies Descalzos and around 700 students from IED San Vicente were attended. The specialists assessed the individual's visual capacity; performed color perception tests; stereopsis tests (fine depth vision); ocular motility (assessment of the patient's motor status); refraction (determination of refractive status) and ophthalmoscopy (assessment of the back of the eye).

This assessment left a focal group of students for the delivery of glasses, and in this way take care of their visual health and thus provide them with a fundamental tool in their learning process.
