Lomas del Peye
The Lomas del Peye, Cartagena school, is in a vulnerable community integrated by 11 neighborhoods that have formed over the past 15 years, as a consequence of internally displacements from Montes de Maria and Magdalena Medio where there is a significant evidence of poverty, displacement and a shortage of access to public services.
The school was built on a 14,000-meter lot on a mountain; the only space free of invasions and which initially was a total area of 34,000 M2 with significant inclinations and large presence of native vegetation. It includes 49 classrooms for kindergarten, elementary, secondary and technical training, as well as specialized classrooms, a library, an auditorium-cafeteria, a sports area and administrative offices, among others.
It is able to serve 1,373 students, their families and members of the community through the implementation of extracurricular activities which aim to facilitated tools for a better quality of life. Currently has 43 teachers, the Principal is Father Alfonso Moreno Grau.
Architecture and Ecosystem
The space where the school is located at the intersection between the ecosystem of the Cienaga de la Virgen and the Cerro de la Popa, a property from the social fund and urban district reform of Cartagena (Corvivienda). This project designed by renowned architect Giancarlo Mazzanti also constitutes an ecological and environmentally friendly proposal. The school is an environmental barrier that seeks to stop urban sprawl on the ecosystem.
Like all our Schools (which we contribute to improve their infrastructure or that we built), we look that the architectural project becomes an urban reference of great social impact and a change for the population of this important area of Cartagena>
