Educational Institution Maria Berchmans Pies Descalzos
The institution is located in the Colombian Pacific region, predominantly Afro-Colombians, who live in the highest rates of poverty in the country. The project was created in response to the lack of education and opportunity in the municipality of Quibdó, which mostly consists of displaced families from the Bojaya tragedy.
The Pies Descalzos Foundation began its work in 2004 and through various projects now serves 1,225 children, youth and people in the sector.
The institution has seventeen classrooms, a computer room, a games room, an administrative area and a dining room where 715 children have been benefiting from grades 0 to 5 as well as their families.
The school has 24 local teachers who work under the supervision of Professor Benigno Sánchez and Rector Ricardo Emiro Ledesma Copete.
So far, four classes have graduated students.
